The world of social media is taking a shape of an industry in itself. Till today people are not able to analyze the power of social media and its impact on the generations to come. Imagine a scenario where people of same interest coming together and taking virtual tours to their favourite place, sitting in their respective homes. They connect/disconnect every time they wish to. They watch on-demand and they eat on-demand. The algorithms written for search engines would involve more behavioural appraoch for users based on preferences and past searches.
However the wide acceptance of such medium would call for serious security threats also. The layer of transparency between unknow people would decrease tremendously. This would again lead to a rise in a different business scope for intelligent online security companies whose main task would be to ensure security in these online communities and social networks.
For next 5 years the convergence of digital media would be on hand held devices like PDA, Mobile, palmtops etc. Many companies have already started developing some serious mobile applications for the next generation user who is more informed and updated like ever before.
